Be SAFE HEAT Course

Implemented in partnership with the Italian Armed Forces in the former “Calvarina” NATO base located in Roncà (Verona). Our HEAT is developed in full compliance with the EU ENTRi standards/ESDC curricula and is delivered by accredited sector-specific experts from our pool of partners and external providers.

Full HEAT Program Overview

10 modules comprising theoretical and practical elements delivered to you based on the EU ENTRi standards and European Security and Defence College curricula. Preliminary readings and e-learning courses are provided to participants to create basic foundation knowledge.

MODULE 1

Security Awareness

Generic threats, mitigation measures, journey planning and travel management

MODULE 2

Communication Systems

Effective use of radio, phonetic alphabet, radio transmission, voice procedures, basic satellite communications principles

MODULE 3

Navigation & Orientation

Direction and navigation in high-risk areas, grid references, map reading and navigation techniques using different tools, smart phones and satellite phones

MODULE 4

Health & Medical Skills

Principles of general health, well-being and stress management. Bleeding control, fractures and burns as well as first aid. NEW SUB-MODULE ON CBRN EVENTS.

MODULE 5

Checkpoint Negotiation & Conflict Management

Identify types of VCP/roadblocks, legal and illegal checkpoints and roadblocks’ set up and layout, verbal and non-verbal communications, behavior skills, bribery, corruption and gifts

MODULE 6

Mines, UXOs and IEDs

Mines, Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) awareness; emergency procerdures & threat detection and response

MODULE 7

Coping After Capture, Kidnapping and Hostage Survival

Arrest and detention by official organizations VS unlawful kidnapping, suspicious behavior detection, escape attempts, stress indicators, information gathering opportunities

MODULE 8

Force Protection & Compound/Base Security

Principle and elements of Force Protection as well as compound/base protection, minimization of vulnerabilities, bunker and safe room procedures, correct use of PPE and grab bags, immediate action drills

MODULE 9

Close Protection & Convoy Security

Close Protection drills and techniques, vehicle entry/exit drills, foot movement drills, movement under fire, cross-docking procedures, vehicles as cover, mobile security procedures, and contingency plans

MODULE 10

CBRNe Threats Awareness

CBRN fundamentals, threats and hazards, resilience and situational awareness, PPE and self-protection procedures.

Additional Options

Tailor-Made HEAT

1 to 5 days HEAT courses

Upon request, participants can be trained, for example, on particular threats characterizing specific countries and/or on the specific risks and threats related to the job performed abroad. The duration of the course is a minimum of 1-day and goes up to 5 days in total.

HEAT CAP

2-day security training upon request

HEAT CAP is a 2-day residential security training, based on a selection of HEAT standard modules, aimed at individuals travelling or performing short missions to capitals in medium and high-risk countries through a combination of theory and practical exercises.
