BeSAFE HEAT Course
Implemented in partnership with the Italian Armed Forces at the former “Calvarina” NATO base in Roncà (Verona), our HEAT course involve active-duty Italian Special Forces personnel, bringing direct field experience and real operational knowledge into every scenario. The programme is developed in full compliance with ESDC HEAT training standard ensuring the highest level of certified, mission-ready training.

Program Overview
13-module programme combining theoretical and practical training, based on the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) curricula.
Participants receive preparatory materials and e-learning content in advance, ensuring every training day is maximised for high-impact, scenario-based learning.

Missionwise & SAFE
Mandatory on-line courses on CSDP missions safety and security.

Personal Security Awareness
Generic threats, mitigation measures, journey planning and travel management.

MODULE 3
Armed Protection
Introduction to the operational dynamics and roles within a Close Protection team.

MODULE 4
Basic Navigation
Direction and navigation in high-risk areas, grid references, map reading and navigation techniques using different tools, smart phones and satellite phones.

MODULE 5
Field Communication
Effective use of the radio, the phonetic alphabet, radio transmission, voice procedures and the basic principles of satellite communications.

MODULE 6
Field Trip Planning
Basic guidelines for planning safe travel in high-risk areas.

Tactical Field Care
Principles of general health, wellbeing and stress management. Managing bleeding, fractures and burns, and first aid.

MODULE 8
Kinetic Threats
Awareness of mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs); emergency procedures and the detection of and response to threats.

MODULE 9
Aerial Threats
Recognise the danger from Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (RAM) attacks. Understand the most common usage of drones (threat, surveillance, mission support) in High Risk areas and demonstrate emergency procedures in the event of being confronted with a drone.

Checkpoints
Identify the types of roadblocks, legal and illegal checkpoints, verbal and non-verbal communication, behavioural skills, bribes, corruption and gifts.

MODULE 11
Conduct After Capture
Behavioural principles for dealing with situations involving kidnapping or abduction, stress management, and the basic principles of communication and negotiation to reduce risk.

MODULE 12
Civil Unrest
Analysis of crowd dynamics and signs of escalation during protests and unrest. Practical advice on how to stay calm and communicate effectively.

MODULE 13
Field Exercise
Practical exercises to apply the skills acquired during the course.
